Many of our dealership locations have two shifts. Lakeside offers technicians working second shift an hourly wage premium on top of their regular hourly wage. In addition to the hourly wage premium, there are other benefits to working a second shift. Listed below are some additional second shift advantages shared by our very own second shift technicians.

We are committed to the ongoing development of every diesel technician regardless of years of experience or skill level. Being well trained by the best in the industry is what you’ll get as an employee of Lakeside. When it comes to training, there is no cost to our technician, Lakeside covers 100% of the training costs. To maintain your skills, we offer onsite factory training, apprentice programs, self-study courses and ASE certification programs and offer a Tuition Reimbursement Program to qualifying candidates.

Diesel technicians need the right tools to get the job down. When it comes to technology and continuous advancements in commercial truck engineering, laptops equipped with the latest software are essential. Lakeside provides every retail diesel technician with their own company laptop. These tools provide quick access for performing diagnostics, pulling diagrams, researching parts and even truck programming. We understand what our technicians need to be successful, and we make sure they have the right tools.
Tools are essential to working on the shop floor. Having the right tools for the job matters. We understand the investment it takes to build a tool box. That’s why Lakeside offers every Diesel Technician an annual allowance to cover the cost of new and replacement tools needed to get the job done.

Lakeside provides technicians with high quality, industry uniforms. Included are personal lockers, onsite weekly uniform pick-up and cleaning services as well as repair and replacement services as needed. Each technician receives Lakeside branded uniform winter jackets and replacement winter caps each year. All uniforms are personalized with the technician’s name and certifications.

We’ve got you covered when it comes to your CDL. Obtaining and maintaining your CDL is critical in your line of work, and we want to make it easy for our technicians. Lakeside covers the cost of a technician CDL license – whether you are getting it for the first time or if it’s a renewal. To ensure your CDL license doesn’t expire, we have a system to remind our technicians when it’s time for renewal.
Supporting your credentials so you can focus on the work you love to do. Lakeside covers the cost of CDL Medical Card issuance and renewals. To ensure your medical card doesn’t expire, we have a system in place to remind you when it’s time for renewal.

WORK LIFE BALANCE

We understand some employees prefer nontraditional work schedules to help support their families or to achieve work-life balance. For this reason, Lakeside is committed to working with our employees to help achieve this goal.
Lakeside provides Paid Time Off (PTO) benefits to full-time and part-time employees. Every employee begins earning time on their first day on the job. This program gives employees more flexibility than a traditional vacation day program making it easy to use for planned or unplanned absences. We know our employees want to manage their own time off needs and this program provides convenience. Best of all, earned, unused PTO is not lost! There’s no such thing as use it or lose it here. The Lakeside policy is use it now or use it later. You can even get paid for your unused time. You earned it – you decide.
Full-time Lakeside employees enjoy 56 hours of company paid holiday time each year. SAFETY

Working on commercial truck equipment as a diesel technician requires great vision. Lakeside offers diesel technicians the opportunity to purchase, replace and upgrade their protective prescription glasses once a year at no cost. Not only do our techs have the sharpest vision, but we ensure their eyes are well protected.
Working on large commercial truck equipment, carrying heavy parts and using industry tools all day, every day accidents can happen. Protecting our mechanics from accidents is important. Lakeside offers employees an annual work boot allowance to ensure toes and feet are protected on the job.
At Lakeside we consider safety to be more than a priority, it’s a core value. Working safely is embedded in our culture, guiding our decisions, and influencing how we do things. Throughout the year, our Environmental Health and Safety Manager leads rigorous safety audits and provides guidance on improvements as needed. In-house safety training is a constant as well. To ensure our employees are working the safest way possible we host several in person and web-based safety training workshops. Some key areas covered include driving safety, fire prevention, first aid, hazardous spills, eye safety, power tools, ladder safety, lock out tag out, ergonomics, bloodborne pathogen, and machine guarding.
