Lakeside International Trucks: November 2024 Updates

updates

As we approach the close of 2024, we’re celebrating a landmark year at Lakeside International Trucks, marking four decades of excellence in the trucking industry. From being nominated for ATD Dealer of the Year and securing runner-up, to winning the prestigious 2024 Successful Dealer Award, opening our own diesel technician school to navigating industry challenges, our commitment to innovation and customer service remains stronger than ever.

Industry Updates: October Highlights

On October 1, Navistar officially rebranded and changed its name to International Motors, LLC* (“International”). This shift reflects the company’s strategy to become a solutions provider, expanding beyond trucks and buses to include services like parts, maintenance, and financing. This rebranding is part of a broader transformation started in 2021, emphasizing customer engagement and heritage. As we transition to the International brand, we take pride in our long-lasting heritage as Lakeside International Trucks for over 40 years.

Industry Insights: Current Market Trends

The trucking industry continues to adapt to changing market conditions. Recent data show heavy-duty truck sales reached 203,000 units through Q3, reflecting a 12.5% year-over-year decline. However, medium-duty truck sales show resilience with a slight uptick of 0.9%, totaling over 178,000 units. These numbers reflect the industry’s ongoing adjustments to market demands and economic conditions.

Celebrating Excellence: Our Recent Achievements

The highlight of October was receiving the 2024 Successful Dealer Award, a testament to our customer-first approach. As Vice President of Operations Peter Klein notes, “We have experienced a tremendous amount of change in our business, and I think the key to that has been intentionality.”

Our success stems from:

  • Active engagement with customers through boots-on-the-ground strategy.
  • Adaptability to evolving industry needs.
  • Strong leadership continuing Bill Reilley Sr.’s founding vision.

Holiday Season Logistics: Planning for Success

The approaching Thanksgiving holiday brings unique challenges to freight shipping operations. With this being one of the busiest travel periods of the year, we see a natural reduction in carrier capacity as drivers take well-deserved time with their families. Those who choose to work through the holiday typically command premium rates, leading to temporary increases in shipping costs.

For optimal holiday shipping success, we recommend scheduling deliveries for the week before Thanksgiving or early December. It’s particularly important to verify receiving capabilities during Black Friday, as staffing patterns may vary across facilities. Early planning and clear communication with transportation providers can help mitigate potential delays and cost increases during this busy season.

Recap: Strategic Shipping Tips

  • Schedule deliveries for pre-Thanksgiving week or early December.
  • Verify receiving capabilities, especially during Black Friday.
  • Plan for potential rate increases during peak holiday periods.

Winter Preparedness: Staying Ahead of Seasonal Challenges

Winter weather significantly impacts trucking operations, particularly in our core service areas across Wisconsin and northern Illinois. The combination of limited daylight hours, extreme temperatures, and variable road conditions creates unique challenges for the industry. Lakeside International’s experienced team works closely with customers to maintain efficient operations despite these seasonal obstacles, emphasizing proactive planning and safety measures.
